Holiday began in the spring of 2009 by four old friends: Justin Jolley, Joanna Tillman, Jacob and Caleb Graham. It started as an online label, giving away free mp3 releases every friday. We just did the best we could. We've made a lot of friends and a few enemies and shared all sorts of wonderful music with the world. We also released The Drums's "Summertime!" EP in America. . . a modest, limited run, our first unofficial release. But now, nearly two years later, we've branched out and become a real, live, physical record label: The Holiday Friends Recording Co. with CDs and 7"s looming on the horizon. We've also acquired our own recording studio building in the middle of nowhere Maryland where the rent is cheap and we're planning on taking our bands to hang out and think about making records.

In our spare time Joanna teaches highschool, Justin is a translator for the U.S. Navy (those two also have a band together called Church Library), Jacob plays guitar for The Drums, and Caleb is a freelance journalist (and he's also been playing drums for The Young Friends for a while now).

We're thinking about going on a camping trip sometime next year on the Appellation Trail. That is something we've been thinking about for some time now. You know, just get away from it all. Justin was just there a few weeks ago with some of his "other friends". He took some nice pictures. Maybe that would even be a nice time to write some new songs?

Honestly, that probably won't happen. Not for a few years at least. I think we're all sort of at this point in our lives when things are just so busy and all. But that's alright, it's something to look forward to. If you don't have anything to look forward to, that's when you know things are grim.

Well, we also have five incredible releases to look forward to here! Everything we're about to release is very important. It's the reason we wake up in the morning.

Soon you'll be able to find our records in Rough Trade Records stores in the Uk and in a few fine independent record shops in the US. If you own a store of your own and you want to sell our records, well, that would be just wonderful. Please e-mail us.

If you'd like to know a little more about us, we did our first interview a while back for the Chaotisch Und Charmant blog. here:

And then there's one more thing; The Independent wrote an article called "So who runs the record labels now?" which is mostly about real people who are starting record labels, but they were nice enough to included a little bit about us:

And I guess that's about it. I'll let you know if anything else happens. This isn't cute, it's real life.

These are all of the bands we have released so far as part of our free singles club: The Hairs, The Young Friends, Nighthawke, The Drums, Golden Glow, Young Michelin, Two Wounded Birds, The Notes, The Motifs, Surfer Blood, Acorn Boys, Bonfire Kids, Church Library, Palms on Fire, UnLOVED bikes, Victory VIII, Jes Maybe, The Arctic Flow, boundary JIM, Paisley & Charlie, Nun Party, Uranium Lake, Girl Alliance, House of Wires, Songs for Walter, In The Low Life, (stopgo) people, Canoe, Sunshower Orphans, Da Brasilians, A Classic Education, The Metric Mile, A Bird, The Sen-ors of Marseille, Winterlish, The 13 Folds, The Heather, The Whatevers.
